Michel Nostradamus was
born in Saint-Rémy, a small town in French province of Provence
on December 14th 1503.
His grandfather, a royal physician, introduced him to the secrets
of astrology, mathematics, and astronomy when he was still
a young child.
Astrology was at the time a subject taught at the University
and it was a part of the study of medicine (1338-1830).
Michel studied in Avignon and Montpellier, and by the age of
16 was fluent in Latin, Greek, and Hebrew and knew astrology,
and the craft of making simple medicines.
After finishing the medical school, he entered a difficult
period of his life. Nostradamus had to keep his Hebrew origins
secret and therefore only work at small physician practices.
He moved to Agen and married for the first time.

1538 marks the beginning of a series or tragic events. The plague is ravaging
the country and Nostradamus practices medicine in villages around Agen,
but has to return when his wife and children died of plague.
Wanted by the Inquisition (he was reported by a friend) due to ownership
of forbidden books and emotionally shattered by the loss of his family,
he leaved France. It is said that he was paranoid and mistrustful of others
for years, and there is little known of this period of his life outside
France. He returns after 12 years.
Suddenly a desire for deeper knowledge of secret lore has awakened
in him and he spent days and nights in medical research and studying
old books of astrology.
At the age of 45 he meets a rich widow, and marries her after two
weeks, and moves into her house in the small town of Salon, where he sets
up a laboratory/observatory on the roof in which he starts to collect the
data needed to write medical books and his famous ‘Centuries’.
After
publishing ‘Centuries’ Nostradamus becomes even more famous and in 1556
he becomes a physician-astrologer of King Henry II.
In 1566, two weeks before his death he dictates his last will and testament.
On the eve of his death, when his pupil says ‘See you tomorrow’ he
answers ‘When the Sun rises, I will be gone’.
In the following years many of his prophecies were falsified. His
books were misinterpreted and text that he never wrote was added.
