PARENTS AND CHILDREN

We
know how important is the role of parents in the development of children.
The relationship with parents influences the psychological formations
of the child, its attitudes and opinions of the world, along with their
interpersonal relationships.
Astrologically speaking, there are several indicators that address
this issue. What needs to be mentioned is that the birth chart is
the picture of our inner world, it shows the personal perspective of
things, and that means that we are subjective in our opinion of our
parents.
That is why children of the same parents may have an entirely different
opinion of them, which can be seen in their horoscopes. Often these
opinions are completely opposite.
But let's start at the beginning.
Two basic indicators of the parent's role in life are the Moon and
the Sun. The Moon and the Sun, which are also called the Lights in
astrology, represent two basic parts of human psyche.
The Moon represents female, receptive, passive, nurturing aspect
of our personality. We can identify it with what Jung called anima.
Anima is the female part of the psyche in both women and men.
The
Moon in the horoscope of children, as well as adults, indicates the
relationship with the mother. It is the
indicator of our deepest emotional needs, it shows in which way
do we want to be taken care for, and what we need to be felt safe
and protected. All this is personified in mother personality, which
role is particularly important during first three years of life.
During that period, the child is like a sponge – it absorbs all that
happens around him, mostly at nonverbal, instinctive, emotional level.
The position of the Moon in the birth chart shows what are the needs
of the child in the earliest age. The Moon for air signs likes when
it is spoken to, for fire signs when it is given enough room and freedom
for creativity and games, for earth signs the most important thing is
to be fed and kept warm, while for water signs the most important thing
is gentleness and compassion.
The relationship with the mother is our first
love – emotions and experiences from that period will permanently
mark our emotional life.
The
Sun, male, active, conscious, creative principle, is the signifier
of the image of the father. Psychologically it represents
the male part of personality – animus. The relationship with
father is very important for further development of the child.
His role in life helps the development of the identity, it
is the beginning of the relationship with the authority, it teaches us
how to reach independence and self-sufficiency.
On the quality of this relationship depends the child's sense of
security and self-confidence, just as its ability to face the challenges
of life. The contact with the father is crucial for further development
of the child after the third year of life, when the child becomes aware
of itself, that is, when it does not completely identify with the mother.
In this period the father can become our hero, but also the person
we resist, and the position of the Sun in the birth chart further clarifies
this.
The aspects of the Sun are especially important – when they are harmonious
the child has a positive attitude towards the father and when they are
disharmonious they can create tensions in the relationship.
Besides the Sun and the Moon, the
relationship with the parents can be observed through the fourth and
the tenth house in the horoscope.
The fourth house is, among
other things, the house of the family, home, homeland, and it is
the house
of our personal 'roots' – an area that is strongly affected by our instincts.
The fourth house describes the relationship with the parent that, in our
view, is more in the shadow, but at the same time very close and has a
protective relationship with us.
The tenth house is the one that indicates our
position in the social and professional aspect of our life, and
our relationship with the authority. Our attitude towards the authority
is above all constructed through our relationship with our parents
that has a great effect on us, and that we perhaps fear a little,
at the same time trying to appease it and confront it. More detailed
information will be certainly provided by the position of the fourth
and the tenth house in the zodiac signs, as well as the planets
that are in them.
As important is the relationship between
the Sun and the Moon in horoscope, equally important is the balance between
the fourth and tenth house which are opposite one to another. While we
are children, we cannot affect what happens around us too much. But when
we grow up, we have to put in a lot of effort to find out what are relationship
with our parents really is like, how much effect they had on us, and what
consequences it has in our adult life. And, of course, to try to make the
best out of it.
